What Makes You Happy Book Tag

I saw this tag over at https://darquedreamerreads.wordpress.com/ and thought I'd have a go. Nice, easy and short this one!

List 5 things that make you happy:

1) My Dad
He is literally my world, TBH. We've always been close from the times he read me Lord of the Rings as bedtime stories, and through our shared love of sport and books, but since my mum died of cancer in 2014, we're even closer. I can't imagine losing him too and at times that thought really terrifies me.

2) My Books
I have always had a big book collection. As a kid it was Enid Blyton, Roald Dahl and anything with horses, then Sweet Dreams and Sweet Valley High, then along came Stephen King and my love of horror was born! My favourite genres now are horror, apocalypse and prepper fiction, urban fantasy, creature features...also like a bit of political and mountain expedition non fiction, Tudor and Plantagenets fiction and non fiction. Very little makes me happier than sitting in my room surrounded by my bookcases smiling at me! I found blogging through my books which I also enjoy.

3) My DVDS
If I'm not reading, I'm delving into my dvd collection. I like horror, action and adventure, some fantasy and SF. I love binge watching favourites like Game of Thrones, Buffy, The West Wing, Stargate Atlantis, Prisoner Cell Block H, newer finds like Scandal, Hannibal, Elementary, and a huge pile of stuff I haven't got to. I also watch re-runs and dvds of Coronation Street. The thing is, after seeing Game of Thrones, all I want to do is keep watching it over and over!

4) My Boys
I love my stuffed animals-I don't have children or pets so these guys are the ones I hug if my day has been crap, cry into their fur when I'm upset and maybe even talk to when I'm feeling stressed! My favourites are my monkeys. I have a lot of them and always take a couple on holiday with me to make my photos more interesting. Here are Dougall and Carlos partying at New Year!

5) My Holidays
About a 4-5 hour drive away is my favourite place in the UK-Blackpool. I've been going to this seaside resort since I was a kid and I always feel happy and relaxed there. I love going on holidays with my dad around Lancashire, Yorkshire and Cumbria, our trips up to the highlands of Scotland and day trips to nearer shores. I also loved discovering places like Cape Town when I went abroad.

List 5 songs that make you happy

1) Franz Ferdinand-Do You Want To?
It's just such a lively song and I like quite a few by the group.

2) The Pogues-Fiesta
We used to go mental dancing to this at the student union in my college days! By the time you get to the third verse, you're knackered!

3) Tracy Bird-I'm From The Country
I just love this feelgood song and it always gets me singing.

4) ACDC-Highway To Hell
I like a nice headbanging sound!

5) Abba-Waterloo
I like their music and this is one of my favourites...also reminds me of one of my favourite films, Mamma Mia!

    1. Picking just five songs was a problem! I decided to go for different types of music to mix it up a bit! Having so many books around is very comforting!

  3. I love Abba too but my fave is Winner Takes it All. Don't know why I like that one so much - it's kind of a downer. Love the monkeys and we should see more of Dougall and Carlos.

I understand how you feel about your dad. Truth be told, I'm probably still not at a good point about losing mine and it's been almost 5 years. I don't think it's any coincidence that 2 of my best blogging friends are very close with their fathers :) I was always a Daddy's girl.

    1. I love my Abba Gold cds! I think there will be lots of monkets on the blog this year...

I dread when something happens to my dad. It was bad enough with losing my mum but losing him will be devastating. I really do feel for you Barb as I have always been a Daddy's girl too. *hugs*

  4. Great post! I just might have to do this on my blog sometime 'cause it's so fun. Especially your favorite tunes. (Although I've now got Waterloo stuck in my head for the rest of the day.) :D

  11. That's great you're close to your dad <3 I get what you mean because I've always been super duper close to my grandma, so I don't like to think about not having her around one day. And of course books! Haha, your monkeys are adorable XD

    1. Yeah it doesn't pay to think about the bad stuff but I find myself obsessed with it during my depressed spells-and that hardly helps! My monkeys are good therapy though!

  12. Sorry to hear about your mom Chuckles! I lost my mom to cancer in 2007 so I know how you feel. I wish I were closer to my dad. So happy to hear you are! LOVE YOUR MONKEYS! Thank you for sharing this part of you!

    1. It's hard losing a parent isn't it. I still have bad days but you just have to get on with it don't you. There seems to be a lot of cancer storylines creeping into urban fantasy which I find tough to read. I do have my monkeys who sit and read with me...they love zombies, monsters and apocalypses!
