Stacking the Shelves #83

Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews
Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks! Click on the link under the book to find its page on Goodreads or Smashwords.

Please note that I always leave a message on your STS/SP if you visit me, but if you use DISQUS or a similar third party I will not be able to leave a comment on your page. And sometimes, I have problems leaving messages on blogs hosted by Wordpress so you might get a double message sometimes! Blame them, not me!

This has been a bit of a hectic week with the General Election in the UK. I've been watching a lot of TV coverage of it which had an impact on the time I had to blog. I'm gutted at the results as well as it means a cut in our finances and harder months ahead. I'm a bit depressed about it to be honest. Still not much I can do except get on with it. I did manage to get plenty of reading done and of course I made time to hunt down those pesky book bargains from across the internet! I had to cheer myself up somehow...

So what about the choices for books this week? Well I'm in the Mountain Month of May so I felt compelled to hunt down a few of the mountain expedition books that have been on my wishlist for years. I also picked up some nice urban fantasy and horror from a few new authors which was quite exciting! I'm not sure if I'll list them all this week or not.

    1. I'm addicted to these mountain climbing books and things like the treks to the poles. I love being with the climbers as they tackle Everest or K2 or something...

  8. I think you did pretty well. I've wanted to The Iron Druid Chronicles for a while. They've been recommended by quite a few people. I swear I'm going to slow down my book buying for at least a few weeks. I need to catch up, big time! It's so hard, though! Enjoy your new books!

  12. Yeah, the aftermath of elections are often hard to deal with, you're kind of lucky you don't vote as often as the Swiss do... Every three months, there are votations, because every law has to be decided by the people. And since the German-speaking part of Switzerland is bigger (and has a higher population) than the French-speaking part, it feels like we don't really get a say.

You have some pretty gruesome covers up there, Chuckles! Die Trying looks chilling. I hope you'll enjoy all your new books.

    1. EEEK! I'm not sure I'd have the energy for all those elections! Mind you it would be nice to get a say on some of the laws being debated...

  14. I've heard about the elections there, but haven't really followed it. That's sad things are getting harder, but like you said, nothing you can do about it which makes it even more frustrating. Nice haul you got this week. I am not really a fan of horror books, although I've read a few now and then. I hope you have a great week!

    1. I can't believe how wrong the polls were on this election. The polls were saying it was close but it wasn't which adds to the disappointment! Now it could be five whole years before we get another chance to change things...ugh!

  16. Oh, several of these snowy covers are giving me chills! Weather here just finally started to warm up. I hate when elections go the opposite directions we need and end up causing us more strife. Hopefully the hardships ahead won't be as bad as they may seem now. Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy all these. Happy Reading!

    1. Thanks! I hope the new government doesn't hit us too hard with cuts but I'm not confident. My book budget is the only thing I spend on myself and I'd hate to have to cut it!
